I know poor Jews.





One of the reasons Jews are so successful is our learning style is different. Practicing Jews make up about 32% of Nobel prize winners. This doesn't even include the winners that weren't practicing. They only make up .02% of the world's population or so.





Jewish learning is quite different than the Socratic Western style. Jews will sit back an listen to the teacher without questions. And just accept what the teacher is saying as truth. Even though it conflicts with what they seem to know already..





Oh, did I just hear you disagree? See, that's western style.





By not raising the roadblock of a question or a mental disagreement, what is being taught sinks in better. The time for questions is later after pondering and hearing all of both sides.





We also don't have a problem with holding two seemingly opposite concepts in our mind without having to decide if one of them is right. We understand both can be right. For example on Noah's Ark. It can be understood as a story about a flood.





But the word for Ark also means Word in Aramaic. So, Noah build the Word on 3 levels and brought his family into it, etc. It was illuminated (Zohar) by a window at the top.





The animals and everything else also have alternate meanings, so it's not a flood at all. (ref: Netivot Shalom)





Because we can hold many things in our minds without conflict, our mind sifts through it, and synthesizes it into a new concept.





Another aspect of Judaism is that we consider taking any time from our employer to be stealing. There are even restrictions on praying during our work time. We can only say a very short part of our morning prayers that takes about 5 seconds while working. Employers appreciate those Jews who embrace this.





Are there poor Jews. Most certainly. They are throughout our history.





One of the difficulties Jews have had throughout our history is comments just like yours. They can only believe a Jew has become successful because they somehow cheated. In fact, they will repeat this falsehood over and over until people believe it. Then people start killing us and taking our wealth.

I heard a recent statistic that 15% of Jews in america are below the poverty line... but those Jews dont get put in the media as Jews lol


and I also heard 20% of Israelis live below the poverty line... but that statistic also includes arabs living in Israel, so its not really 100% about jews.

They're just regular people, it's just they put alot of emphasis on education, and education gets you places. Look at newly arrived people in North America from India and China. They put alot of emphasis on education, and their kids are for the most part well off.

Like any other group, there are Jew that are fabulously wealthy. there are many, many more that rely on the generosity of others just to get by.

Reply:I have met MANY poor jews. Trust me, they are out there. Every race/culture has its rich and its poor. Look at Mexico, many are poor, many are also rich, BUT THE RICHEST MAN ON THE PLANET IS A MEXICAN, hellooooo!
